Fumu x Classified Footwear Sandal Making Workshop Recap
We recently wrapped up our first-ever joint sandal-making workshop with Classified. In just over three hours, participants went from raw materials to walking out in their own handmade sandals.
While some steps were tougher than others, our participants persevered and everyone left with a finished product that they could be proud of.
Here's a glimpse into the day.

Arranging the upper patterns on the leather
We are using full-grain suede here and it is important to minimise wastage
Marking out patterns with a silver pen before the first cut

Participant concentrated on cutting leather

Easier said than done with 2.2mm thick leather
Klingsmen from Classified Footwear explaining the technique to stitch on the buckles
Total focus while handstitching the buckles

Applying glue to the cork footbed

Trimming the excess leather from the leather lined footbed

Marking the corkbed for the position of the straps

Carefully fixing on the upper straps into place

Sanding down the edges to create a smooth transition to ensure the outsoles adhere well
